Jane S. Fancher

R- Ring of Lightening (v,x)
-------------------

Introduction

I have only read one Fancher novel, the first of a trilogy, and I have no clear memory of her style. My apologies.

Rings of Power

The only book of Fancher's I have read is Ring of Lightening, but I will probably get the sequel soon because I think the series shows promise. "Ring" is about three princes, brothers, who live in a world where ley lines (power lines of spirit energy) are tapped in place of electricity. Any of the three brothers may inherit their kingdom when their aging Aunt dies, but she has other plans...

The story line from the point of view of the brothers is merely decent, in my opinion, but the perspective of one of the women that interacts with them and of Dancer, a creature part of the spirit world and part of earth, are well done. Also, the essential premise of the nine rings of power and the balancing of magical energy is intriguing. The book is long, however, and it could probably have been slightly shorter. This book lacks the intensity of the masters, but it was a fun read anyway.
